The challenge
A hedge fund needed timely, consistent access to information spread across its research, order-management, risk, operations and accounting systems. Its existing infrastructure made that difficult. Sources arrived in different formats, and bringing a new feed into use could take weeks.
The problem extended beyond connecting systems. The firm needed consistent data definitions and quality across workflows, while retaining the flexibility to introduce new sources and analytical requirements. Its data architecture had to support the investment process as it evolved.
Our work
Plexi worked with the team on the design, deployment and ongoing maintenance of a scalable data architecture. We integrated 25 or more sources into a common environment, with updates throughout the day to support timely use of the information.
The work included organizing data for analysis, addressing differences in source formats and logic, and establishing repeatable processes for loading data and deploying changes. A client-owned data foundation gave the firm a common starting point for research and operational uses, while preserving room to extend the platform.
Our involvement continued beyond the initial delivery. Maintaining the architecture and helping it accommodate changing requirements were part of the engagement. The aim was to make each additional source an extension of an established process, with less work required to bring it into use.
The result
The initial deployment reached production in two months. The firm gained a connected environment for previously fragmented information, and new-feed integration moved from weeks to days.
The broader result was a data foundation the team could continue to develop: timely information for its daily workflows, consistent handling across sources, and a more manageable path for new research requirements. The engagement combined delivery with the continuing work needed to keep that foundation useful.
